Jon Wilkin names the Super League side in “real danger”

Leeds Rhinos Super League

Sky Sports pundit and former St Helens man Jon Wilkin has suggested that Catalans Dragons are in “real danger” after a Super League defeat to Brad Arthur’s Leeds Rhinos.

The fight for the final playoff places is as tight as it’s ever been, with five sides’ seasons hanging in the balance.

Just fove points separate fourth-placed Salford Red Devils and eighth-placed Leigh Leopards with the end of the season edging ever closer.

Two of those sides faced each other last night, with Leeds Rhinos taking on Catalans Dragons in a game that brought the two sides within two points of each other, as Brad Arthur’s side emerged 18-6 victors.

Prior to the Australian’s arrival, it seemed like they were destined to finish in seventh-place, but the Rhinos – thanks to tries from Fusitu’a, Frawley and Miller, may now believe they’re in with a chance.

However, Catalans Dragons will be looking anxiously over their shoulders after a run of form in which they’ve won just one of their last four games – including a defeat to bottom side London Broncos.

Jon Wilkin says Catalans Dragons are in “real danger” of not making the Super League playoffs

Jon Wilkin, during coverage of the game, suggested the same, noting that the scoreline had made one particular difference to the table: “Catalans will be really nervous now because Leeds have just chopped 24 points off the points difference with that 12-point win.

“It was an exceptional second-half from Leeds but Catalans looked tidy in the first half but really fell away in that second half and Steve McNamara will be asking questions of his players about whether they can go toe-to-toe with the top side.

“They’re in real danger of dropping out of the playoffs. If Leeds or Leigh get in then you feel like on form, Catalans will be the team to drop out.”

With a win over London Broncos tomorrow, Leigh Leopards would be just one point behind the Dragons.
