Super League coach says “some of our recruitment has already been done”

A lot of Leeds Rhinos fans are hoping for some big signings to turn them into title contenders again in 2024.

Of course, quick fixes often don’t work.

Today, Rohan Smith was asked about where the club is at in terms of recruitment:

“I would say that things shift all the time in that regard because any club is not in control of all of the decisions.

“Players are involved in their own career choices and so it’s working with that and on a daily basis, different players become potentially available as well.

“So people that you didn’t consider were on the radar can become on the radar at some stage. So I think we’re in a good position.”

He went on to say that some of club’s recruitment is done through the club’s youth system:

“We’ve got lots of, as you’ve said, lots of young players in our squad that are going to improve. Some of the recruitment has already been done and the development is the big aspect of it.

“We’ve got some terrific players in our academy and scholarship program as well. So some of the recruitment has been done at a very junior level.

“Now it’s about giving those kids time to grow and develop.”
