Super League coach rules club out of pursuing in demand target

Loaning Jordan Abdull away has left the Robins thin in the half-back room.

It is that time of year when it is being reported that certain players are being chased by other clubs now the recruitment window is open.

One player who has been in and out of the rumour mill is Hull KR winger Ethan Ryan.

It was reported that Castleford Tigers were interested in him but Andy Last shut down those rumours today.

“It is making it more difficult but we were never in for Ethan Ryan so wherever that story came from is way off the mark, he’s not someone I’ve considered,” Last said on BBC Radio Leeds.

“I think everybody on the list is someone you look at but Ethan wasn’t someone we’ve pursued.”

Ryan is expected to join Salford Red Devils.

Last’s focus also has to be on getting results and they face a tough challenge against Catalans Dragons this week.

Ahead of this, Last said that he is frustrated to see his side make the same errors again and again:

“Yeah it’s frustrating. We had a fairly open review after the Leigh game on the Saturday morning and just spoke about unfortunately as a team we’re the second worst in the competition, the table doesn’t lie.

“There’s only one team with a worse record than us  and that’s Wakefield. The big thing is the honesty in the group, I asked them ‘how many are playing to a level that is acceptable for us’ and nobody could put their hand up so that’s disappointing when we’ve played every team in the competition and nobody feels they’re at the level they should be.

“We spoke about the reasons why and there was frustration about making the same errors, the same mistakes and what we’ve got to do is learn very very quickly that this game is all about pressure. It’s about dealing with it, sustaining and coping when you’re under it and unfortunately we’ve not been able to do that.

“We’ve tried to simulate that in practice this week with the intensity we’ve trained at and the drills in place. We’ve had a good week practice and hopefully we’ll see the benefits of that come Friday night.”
