Some of the biggest rumours for some time have made the rounds this year whether it is the rumour Leeds Rhinos were interested in former Warrington Wolves halfback Tyrone May, Wigan Warriors’ reported move for Adam Keighran or indeed St Helens’ interest in Daryl Clark as the replacement for the retiring James Roby.
This will reportedly see Hull FC star Brad Dwyer return to Warrington as Roby’s replacement.
Saints are also reportedly set to sign Matt Whitley for 2024 and beyond but it is one of their former players who is at the centre of one of the bigger transfer rumours.
That is former St Helens star and Huddersfield Giants halfback Theo Fages who is reportedly in talks with Catalans Dragons.
Ian Watson addressed these reports this week: “We’d love Theo to be here with us. Like I said, there’s been a lot of things that have gone on in and around situations with Theo, but that’s probably for Theo to explain as he goes forward.”
He also said that Theo is committed to the club and has been “upset” this year about the injuries that have kept him out of the side:
“We’ll see where it takes us with Theo. Theo is really committed to Huddersfield and he’s upset at the kind of number of games he’s missed this year and wants to obviously finish the season really strongly so yeah we’ll see what happens and what develops as we go forward.
“Everyone within the club’s well aware of the situation develops as we go forward with everyone within the club’s well aware of the situation who it’s something that’s probably we’ve got to wait and see more so than anything else.”
He also confirmed the French halfback will be back in the squad ahead of their game with Catalans:
“Theo will be named in the squad. So we’ll name Theo in the squad. Like I said, we’ll get to France and see where we are.”
