Super League coach on the “challenge” facing him with 12 players’ futures not determined

Andy Last has confirmed the club is facing a challenge in determining who they will keep out of their off contract players.

They reportedly have 12 players whose future is not yet determined and Last has opened up on this today.

He said on BBC Radio Leeds today:

“It’s going to be a challenge, I knew that when I applied for the job and there’s going to be some tough decisions that have to be made.

“The players have got to take responsibility and hold themselves accountable with their performances because at the minute there wouldn’t be many you’d be considering signing. That’s because of the nature of how we’ve performed.

“If they get their performances in order then it gives everyone a better opportunity of re-signing for Castleford or elsewhere so performance is king and we need that players to start performing better and get some wins, at which points contracts will drop into place.”

The Tigers need to pick up a win and soon. This week they face a tough challenge against Catalans Dragons who come into the game after defeating Champions St Helens last week.

The Tigers sit ninth at the moment with just two wins and 18 tries in 11 games in a tough start to the season.
