Super League coach makes ominous statement about his side

Hull KR head coach Willie Peters

On Friday night Hull KR picked up another impressive win against St Helens.

Speaking today as the Robins prepare for a meeting with Castleford Tigers, KR boss Willie Peters said of the win over the Saints.

“It was really pleasing because we knew Saints had a fair few players out of their pack, we’re aware of that and understand so we’re not getting carried away. Any time you beat St Helens is a positive for any team.

“It doesn’t matter who wears a St Helens jersey, and they showed that last week, they’re a side that has a great system. They understand their roles and if we weren’t on our game then we’d have got beaten.

“I thought that first half was a similar feel to a past game that we got beat but we adjusted at half time and that was the most pleasing part.

“We made errors and it was going down the track of a similar game in the past but in the second half we started to get a bit of flow about what we were doing. In that first half we were too safe and St Helens have got really good line speed so you need to move their middles.

“I thought whilst we improved in that second half we still can use the ball a little bit more.”

It’s been a funny season for the Robins who started with two wins, lost the next three and have now won the last four.

However, Peters promised there is a lot more to come from his side in what is an ominous warning for the rest of Super League:

“There’s no doubt that when you lose three games in a row there starts to come some pressure in terms of outside noise and you need to have that next win.

“We got that and then off the back of that you need to grow and start winning, so we’ve been able to put four games together now and get the result.

“It’s encouraging because I know what’s in this group, I know where we can go and we’ve got a long way to go. The pleasing part for me is that when we are Hull KR and we stick to what we know and what we’re good at, it’s effective.

“When we go away from it we make it hard for ourselves. We’re in a position now where we’re in control of what happens and there’s no doubt we’re going to come up and get beat against teams who are too good on the day, but more times than not we’ll be in control of what happens because we’ve got a strong focus on what we can control.

“If you get that right then teams have got to stop what we’re able to do, rather than us worrying about what they do.”
