Super League coach makes huge Grand Final claim

Since 1996 we have only had four winners of Super League.

Now only three of those teams are in the Betfred Super League after Bradford Bulls were relegated.

Wigan Warriors, St Helens and Leeds Rhinos are the teams remaining who have won the title and every year the question is: will we see a fifth team finally winning the Grand Final.

But Hull KR boss Willie Peters is certain that will change.

“I think it’s important every week. I was having this conversation with a member of staff. You can look at every game and say it’s a big game or it’s an important game. We could say that from the start of the year, we’ll be saying that again in five or six weeks’ time,” he said.

“I think that’s a credit to the competition at the moment. I did say at the start of the year that I think it’s a really competitive competition.

“We’re getting in a better spot as a competition that we’re narrowing that gap between the best teams and the teams that don’t end up being in the finals.

“There’s so many teams this year that will be fighting for that top six spot but it’s congested. So the game is important for us this week, there’s no doubt but it’s also important to Salford.

“They’re all important games.  I think it’s a credit to the players and everyone involved, we are getting this competition closer to what it was when I was here last time, 20 years ago when it was the top four teams.

“I think there’s only been four clubs that have won it, is that right, in terms of the Super League? I’m pretty sure that it’ll change soon because the competition is getting a lot tighter.”
