Super League coach makes bullish statement about keeping star player

Super League star Tyler Dupree has made a transfer request to the Salford Red Devils as confirmed earlier this week.

Salford’s Director of Rugby and Operations, Ian Blease clarified the club’s position regarding Dupree earlier this week.

“I can confirm the club have received a transfer request from the agent of Tyler Dupree today. We have strongly refused the request, with the player still a big part of our plans going forward.

“As a club, we are committed to retaining our players and after a recent extension, Tyler is contracted until the end of 2025.”

Last week the club confirmed they had rejected a transfer for an unnamed player, now confirmed to be Dupree with two bids from Hull KR.

Dupree had a cryptic say on the matter as he took to Twitter:

“Two sides to every story. The truth will always be the truth even if no one believes it.”

Now there has been a twist with Wigan Warriors putting in a bid for the prop with the Warriors suffering an injury crisis in the pack.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Rowley has been bullish about keeping Dupree.

“He’s our player for three years and if it’s a football decision [about his future] it won’t be happening,” Rowley said.

“It’d be a strong message from our club if we could do that wouldn’t it?”
