Before the start of the season the talk was all about the likes of Wigan Warriors, St Helens, Leeds Rhinos, Warrington Wolves and Huddersfield Giants battling it out at the top of the league.
Meanwhile, the newly named Leigh Leopards were expected to battle it out with Wakefield Trinity in a fight for Super League survival at the foot of the table.
However, that has not been the case with Adrian Lam leading Leigh to huge success so far in 2023.
The Leopards have climbed towards the top of the league and are in a Challenge Cup semi final against St Helens.
A big factor behind this success has been the clubs recruitment but as they build for 2024 there have been suggestions they could lose former Leeds prop Ava Seumanufagai.
When asked about this, Adrian Lam said on the club’s YouTube channel:
“Ava is an important part of our squad at the minute. He’s going nowhere, he’s working hard to fix certain areas where I think as coach that he needs to improve on and he understands what that is.
“Forward we go with him, there’s not much else to say about Ava. He understands his role and everyone’s working hard towards that.”
Ava is a Challenge Cup winner playing in the 2020 final for Leeds Rhinos in an 18 month stay at Headingley before leaving to join the Canterbury Bulldogs where he was certainly a success before leaving ahead of this year.
He is out of contract at the end of the year however and could be snapped up by a Super League rival.
