Super League coach confirms they beat “other clubs” to exciting signing

Last weekend Hull KR announced the signing of AJ Wallace.

Willie Peters is very excited by the signing as he said in his press conference this week.

He also confirmed that the Robins beat a number of different clubs to his signature.

He said:

“I’m really pleased with that. A player like AJ had a couple of other clubs looking at him as well.

“He’s a player who has proven himself down in the Championship which is a tough and highly competitive comp, so to go there at a young and play and prove yourself against grown men is great.

“The exciting part is that he hasn’t been in a full-time environment so you look at his body and look at what he can do, his athletic movements and then you put it in a full-time environment. I’m pretty sure we’ll see a spike pretty quick in terms of his development.”

He then likened him to fellow youngster Phoenix Laulu-Togaga’e:

“He’s similar to Phoenix though as there’s no rush, you need to develop them properly. If you put them in too early they can get spat out just as quick.

“The plan is to develop him slowly, drip feed him into the first team but I’m excited for AJ to see what he can do next year.”
