Super League coach confirms that forward is set to join Super League rivals

Ian Watson has previously confirmed that young British forward Owen Trout would be leaving the club after turning down a contract with the Giants.

Castleford Tigers and Hull FC were interested in the prop but it is believed Leigh Leopards have secured his signature.

Having missed out on Trout, it was reported that Hull were interested in Jack Ashworth and it seems the prop will be headed to the MKM Stadium.

Asked about the chance of Ashworth leaving the Giants, Watson stated: “We think he will be. Jack has been really up front with us.

“It looks like Jack will be going in a different direction. He feels it is best for him and his family and we have to support him with that.”

He confirmed that the prop is being given the chance to be part of his new club’s first choice 17.

Watson said: “What we’re being told he will be in his new side’s starting 17.”

So, the Giants are set to lose Trout and Ashworth at the end of this season.

Trout is unlikely to play again for the Giants after suffering a season ending injury recently.
