Super League coach claims star player is “the best” in the league

A lot of criticism has come the way of Morgan Knowles.

The St Helens star returned from his five match ban against Halifax Panthers and was sent off for a high tackle.

However, Paul Wellens has stood by his player stating he is the best 13 in the league.

“I can sit here confidently saying Morgan Knowles is one of, if not, the best middle forward in the competition and I wouldn’t want to swap him for anybody,” Wellens said on Saints TV.

“At the same time there are certain aspects of his game that he does need to improve on and we’ll start working hard at those.

“I still believe Morgan Knowles is the best 13 in this competition. He’s got to obviously calm his discipline down a little bit and make sure he’s on the field more often because he’s a real asset to our team. The players love him and I love coaching him. I see that 13 primarily as his role but having missed Matty Lees last week I thought it was an opportunity and an option we do have up our sleeve should we need it moving forward.”

Saints will be without him for the clash against Leeds Rhinos as well as the game against Huddersfield Giants at the Magic Weekend.
