Super League coach claims star player is ‘one of the best signings in Super League history’

This weekend we see two huge games as Wigan Warriors and Hull KR collide at Leeds Rhinos’ Headingley Stadium before Warrington Wolves’ Halliwell Jones Stadium plays host to the clash between St Helens and Leigh Leopards.

Two huge games the action concludes at Headingley on Sunday on BBC.

Hull KR are hoping to replicate their semi-final heroics in 2015 at the same stadium as Wigan chase a second consecutive Challenge Cup.

Matt Peet though has plenty of respect for Hull KR and is unsure of who will feature in the halves for the Robins:

“Not sure. I think Schneider will be one. Whether they’ll change a winning partnership. It’s hard to leave Mikey Lewis out, isn’t it? Probably one of the most exciting players in the competition. Massive running threat, potentially a future England half-back.

“So I think whichever way they go, I think I’ll be able to see the logic in it. We’ll probably have to concentrate on ourselves, but we know what Mikey would bring if he was in. I know there’s some talk of him playing full-back, but I don’t see I don’t see I’m putting them in that position.”

He then underlined his opinion of the Warriors including labelling Shaun Kenny-Dowall as one of the greatest signings in Super League history: “I just think they’re a good team to be honest, it’s not like they’ve not like trick-shotted us they’ve beat us in all the important areas, energy, physicality, you know they move the ball well, they kick the ball well. I just think they’re a real high quality team.

“Now they’re back on the straight and the narrow and they’ve got a settled spine, I think they’ll start to climb the ladder again. I think they’ve played most of the year like a top four team.

“It’s not like a particular thing, I just think they’re a really well-rounded team. As I mentioned before, I think they’ve always had outstanding individuals. I think Shaun Kenny-Dowall is actually underrated as the impact he’s had on Super League. I’m a massive fan of his and I think he should be known as one of the best Super League obviously signings that we’ve seen.

“But I think this year the work ethic, you know, Willie talks about the difference between the best and the worst I think you’re seeing that.

“The foot soldiers are turning up every week and getting the hard work done and then you know some of the creative players such as Mikey and Jez Litten and Matt Parcell are getting opportunities to run because everyone’s tipping in on a weekly basis, effort areas. Like I said they generally have a great kicking game as well.”
