Super League coach calls for players to be “more careful” after star avoided ban

Brad Fash for Hull FC

Brad Fash avoided a ban this week after he was placed on report after Hull FC’s Challenge Cup defeat against St Helens.

The forward caught Mark Percival round the head with his shoulder at the end of a tackle.

In the end it was ruled to be accidental and rightly so.

However, Tony Smith has said Fash and players in general need to be “more careful.”

“He got a fine and a Grade A on one incident, I understand the other incident was looked at and we’re grateful that nothing more was made of it,” Smith said on Radio Humberside.

“Was it an unfortunate situation? Yes, it was. And we probably need to be more careful, you know, both Brad and other people when they find themselves in those situations.

“Whether there’s any intent to do anything more than that, well, you know, only one person can answer you there. But I would hope not.

“I don’t like when anybody gets injured and we want to play our sport tough and we always have, but if you’re trying to hurt somebody or injure somebody well that’s too far.

“So we’re grateful for him not to be, have been cited but it was a precarious position that both he and his opposition player got put into so there’s some things that are hard to avoid at certain times too.”
