Super League clubs thought to be in driving seat for Wests Tigers’ Tyrone Peachey

Wests Tigers star Tyrone Peachey is set to explore his options after being told he is free to leave.

Peachey was part of the new signing conglomerate at the Tigers under Michael Maguire for 2022, but that experiment has failed dramatically with the former Wigan Warriors boss departing the club a few weeks ago.

Utility man Peachey hasn’t nailed down a starting spot for Wests, making just eight appearances for the Concord club this season and has played six of those eight from the bench.

It is thought that the 30-year-old will look to Super League to resurrect his career, as per The Daily Telegraph, with it looking unlikely that Wests and perhaps any other NRL side will give him another shot despite 187 games under his belt in the Australian competition.

Though a deal is expected to start in 2023, Wests have told Peachey that they have no qualms with the utility man leaving earlier if a club comes in at the right price.

Having said that, only Warrington Wolves have a place on their quota list for the rest of the season following Billy Magoulias’ exit so it would probably be for next season if a Super League side did come calling.

A deal for 2023 is looking increasingly likely, however, when considering that there has only been lukewarm interest from NRL clubs for the 30-year-old.

Meanwhile, the Tigers are still no closer to finding their successor to Maguire with Penrith Panthers assistant Cameron Ciraldo still thought to be number one choice on the club hierarchy’s list.

Ciraldo is one of the most highest-thought of coaches in the game with Canterbury Bulldogs and New Zealand Warriors also having a sniff around the Panthers man.

It remains to be seen which of the three clubs in need of a boss – Canterbury, New Zealand and Wests – manages to get their man first, but it is a very interesting race especially with the Bulldogs picking up great results under Mick Potter.
