Super League clubs target Manly favourite Thompson

Manly Sea Eagles back-rower Joel Thompson is in the sights of a number of Super League clubs after he expressed an interest in playing overseas.

The 30-year-old is off contract at the end of the season and has played over 200 NRL games for Canberra, St George and Manly.

Thompson is one of the most popular players in the NRL because of his extensive charity work and he is already attracting suitors in England according to The Mole.

Speaking about his contract situation with the NRL’s official website, Thompson said: “I’m always open to anything. Rugby League has given me everything so whatever comes I’ll be happy with that.

“We’ve spoken as a family, we’d like the life experience of going over to a different country and getting paid for it would be pretty special.

“I probably won’t get that again in my life. But I’ll take it for whatever comes and get on with it.”

Despite all the talk of a move away from Brookvale Oval‎, Thompson could yet be offered a new deal having featured in all of Manly’s matches so far this season.
