According to reports Down Under ‘at least two’ Super League clubs are keen on signing one off-contract NRL forward.
That’s according to The Mole of Wide World of Sports who has provided an update on former Canterbury Bulldogs prop Liam Knight.
The 30-year-old is without a club at the moment having seen his Bulldogs contract expire at the end of the 2024 season, however, there is reportedly major interest in bringing him over to Super League.
Despite signing for the Bulldogs in 2023, Knight played just seven games for the club as injuries limited him. He did play 15 games in the New South Wales Cup in 2024 but those showings were not enough to convince the Bulldogs to retain him with the club adding to their forward pack through the signing of Super League star Tom Amone.
With the NRL season close to kicking off, Knight reportedly “hasn’t had much luck” in attracting NRL interest but per The Mole, there are “at least two” Super League clubs who have shown interest in the prop.
Knight’s knee which has plagued him with injury has “finally come good” leaving him hopeful of a Super League deal, however, the issue now is that very few teams have overseas quota spots available.
Currently, just Huddersfield Giants, Leigh Leopards and Wakefield Trinity have the ability to sign an overseas player meaning Knight’s options would be limited.
It would seem that any Super League interest has come from teams who do not have quota space with Knight’s manager Chris Orr telling Wide World of Sports: “There are clubs keen on him – they just can’t fit Liam into their quotas at the moment.
“But you never know what could happen – one poor bloke gets hurt in the NRL trials and suddenly there is an opportunity.
“So we are keeping our options open.”
