In 2023, we will see Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors, Warrington Wolves, St Helens, Hull FC and the rest of Super League every week.
This is because Sky Sports have agreed a deal that will see every game shown next year which is something fans have long clamoured for.
Not only does this see Super League emulate the NRL in the respect of every game being available to watch but it will ensure that there is a video referee at every game in 2023 which has long been demanded.
The value of the TV deal is reduced from 2022 despite the increase in games.
This has impacted some teams and their spending power.
It has already been reported that the likes of Castleford Tigers and Salford Red Devils will be unable to spend their full salary cap in 2024 because of this.
It is also widely believed that the reduction in TV money is a factor in why Salford accepted the £300,000 from Leeds Rhinos for Brodie Croft and Andy Ackers as it offsets some of the loss suffered by the club due to this change.
It is clear that the TV deal has impacted some clubs’ ability to sign players but as seen by Leeds some clubs have been able to find a way around it.
Leeds fans can thank new sponsors AMT for their ability to secure their major signings.
After the agreement of the new deal, Jonathan Licht, Sky Sports Managing Director, said:
“We are extremely proud of our long-standing relationship with Super League and delighted to be extending our partnership beyond three decades through this agreement. It’s been an exceptional season and we are excited that from next season every try, tackle and pass from every fixture will be shown live across Sky platforms – a first for the sport.
“Alongside our commitment to the women’s and wheelchair game, we are delighted that fans will be able to enjoy the most comprehensive offering in the history of the sport.”
In addition to live matches, Super League fans can tune in to Sky Sports for a range of support programming, including interviews and features, and can stay across all the latest Rugby League news across Sky Sports’ channels on social media, SkySports.com and Sky Sports News.
