Super League clubs will be on alert after reports Down Under emerged that a “big name back” could be offloaded to England.
The ‘big name’ in question is unclear as the report, from Wide World Of Sports, does not name the player but claims that the player in question is on “big dollars”.
Despite that big dollar billing, the back has proven a ‘headache’ for their current club which has seen them emerge as a potential candidate to be offloaded with rival NRL clubs or Super League teams an option.

Whilst both player and club are unnamed, it’s made clear that the player is on the block after not proving to be worth the big money deal he is on, and also proving a liability defensively.

The report states: “It’s not his behaviour or attitude that is an issue – more the fact that he leaks points at an alarming rate.
“But to get him off their hands, the club would have to pay a significant amount of his lavish contract for the next couple of years.”
A major issue for the majority of Super League clubs would be finances but also the fact that very few teams have overseas quota spots available.
Currently, just Huddersfield Giants, Leigh Leopards and cash-strapped Salford Red Devils have overseas quota spots available with Huddersfield boss Luke Robinson recently admitting that the club are close to cap.
As such, that would mean Leigh are the only side possibly in the market after their release of Ben Nakubuwai but it’s believed that the Leopards would be interested in either a forward, or a replacement at half-back following last season’s surprise retirement of Matt Moylan.
Since then, Gaz O’Brien has deputised brilliantly whilst their outside back injuries have seen them blood in the likes of AJ Towse and Bailey Hodgson successfully too.
