Super League club target departing Catalans Dragons man as recruitment drive continues

Hull FC

Hull FC are closing in on a deal to sign Catalans Dragons’ Arthur Romano ahead of the 2026 Super League season.

Romano is one of 13 players set to depart the Stade Gilbert Brutus after the club’s final game of the Super League season on Thursday night, with the Dragons confirming he would be set to depart in a press release last month. The club didn’t disclose where Romano was heading, though, leaving the centre’s future up in the air.

However, it seems he could be set to remain in Super League, with Serious About RL understanding that Hull have made a play to sign the Frenchman.

The Black and Whites have been looking for a centre for some time, with John Cartwright believing his squad is a little light in terms of outside back depth heading into next season. Sam Wood was an option considered by the East Yorkshire club, as reported by this title, but the club were keen to consider their options elsewhere before making a decision.

And, it seems as though they have found their man, with Romano being targeted by the west Hull outfit.

Hull have already signed a number of players for 2026 with Sam Lisone, Jake Arthur, Connor Bailey, Joe Batchelor and James Bell all being announced, the latter two last night. Wigan Warriors’ Harvie Hill is also believed to have signed, while as reported exclusively by Serious About RL, Goole Vikings youngster Joe Phillips has also been snapped up.

They have space for more, though, and explored the possibility of adding Sam Eseh to their ranks permanently. Hull also showed interest in Huddersfield Giants’ Oliver Wilson but that one is understood to be unlikely at present amid interest from elsewhere in Super League.

Serious About Rugby League has launched a brand new podcast which can be watched in full on our YouTube channel here.

Romano certainly fits the bill for the Black and Whites and should they complete the deal, the France international, who is 28-years of age, would certainly add Super League experience to what is a young but highly talented back line.

He’s spent his entire career to date with Catalans, making 94 appearances for the Perpignan outfit and scoring 22 tries. He has touched down just twice this year though in what has been a difficult season for the club.

Romano also made six appearances for Toulouse Olympique at the start of his career during a loan spell.
