Super League club set to complete major transfer

Clubs such as Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors, Warrington Wolves, Hull FC, Hull KR and Huddersfield Giants have all confirmed major signings for the 2024 season.

More signings are set to be announced as more targets emerge especially after Wakefield Trinity’s relegation.

One player who has been spoken about a lot is Sam Eseh with the prop being linked to the likes of St Helens and Leeds Rhinos.

The Game Caller has even reported that he is joining St Helens. This would make sense given recent comments from Paul Wellens.

On the possibility of signing a prop, Paul Wellens said on Saints TV:

“Potentially. It’s something that we’re having discussions around at the moment. We’re certainly not looking to replace those guys. We hope those guys return to fitness and get back playing for us because they’re both really valued members of the playing group and both brilliant individuals as well. We are having discussions.

“I think obviously the rise of George Delaney this year has eased that burden a little bit in terms of being able to play a middle. Morgan Knowles has shown he can move up, Sione Mata’utia has shown he can move up, so we do have options there.

“We’re going to have those discussions and see what best fits, but we don’t need to really jump at anything straight away. We prefer to be patient as a club and make the right decision and if that takes a few weeks or a couple of months longer then so be it.”

He also emphasised the struggles they are having when it comes to the middles:

“Yes, it’s been a challenge for us ever since Agnatius and Alex picked up injuries. We will deal with it the best we can like I’ve said numerous times, Sione can play in the middle, Joe Batchelor surely can do that, Sam Royle has been able to do that, we’ve got young Lewis Baxter who’s just narrowly missed out on the squad in the last few weeks as well. Despite missing players, we still have strong options.”

So could we see Eseh at the Totally Wicked Stadium soon?
