Super League club seemingly set for huge takeover as coach comments

Wakefield Trinity

There has been talk recently that Wakefield Trinity could be subject to a massive takeover that could take the club forward.

Now Wakefield boss Mark Applegarth has addressed this talk.

“No, I don’t think it’s something I need to get embroiled in if I’m honest,” Applegarth said on BBC Radio Leeds.

“I think we’re all aware of the talk, and I suppose when there’s any news to share, the club will share it, but I just focus on the playing side of things and what’s happening behind the scenes. It’s not something that I really get involved in.

“I’ve got a big enough task just making sure that we solve this playing side and getting the squad and the culture of this great club to how we want it moving forward into this new era with the new surroundings, with the facilities and that, and moving to a different era of where we’ve been.”

Speaking of focusing on the on field stuff, he addressed whether he thinks the club can still avoid relegation:

“Yeah, listen, until it’s mathematically impossible, there will always be that belief there. We’ve just got to make sure that we’re giving ourselves a chance.

“As I say, I don’t think we’re giving ourselves a chance because we’re not putting any sustained pressure on an opposition.

“That’s what rugby at this level is all about, is putting sustained pressure on teams and then turning it into points.

“We need to get that sorted first and foremost because that’s what teams are doing to us. They’re just putting some pressure on us and we’re the team that’s breaking first and coughing up the points.

“Our heads then end up going down and we end up in that vicious cycle. So we’re just trying to break that and make sure that we get that first performance that we’re all craving for and then we’ll take it from there.

“But until it’s mathematically impossible, we’ll be giving it everything we’ve got.”
