As London Broncos prepare to join the likes of Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors, Warrington Wolves, St Helens and the rest of Super League in 2024, they have made an all important stride forward.
They have secured the services of halfback Oli Leyland who has agreed a new deal at the club for the 2024 season.
The 22 year old, who was named the London Broncos Supporters Association’s Player of the Year last season, has scored over 300 points since breaking through to the first team in 2021.
Speaking on extending his stay at his hometown club Oli said: “I’m really glad to be re-signing with the Broncos, I’ve had a couple of years getting game time and developing my game and think there’s still a lot of improvements I can make.
“Next season I am looking forward to having a good pre-season and hitting the ground running and making those improvements to make me the best player I can be and kicking on again.
“I can’t wait to be in the Super League and test myself at a higher level.”
This comes after they secured the services of Jarred Bassett for next year as well. The 31 year old Australian has enjoyed an extraordinary rise in the game in recent years moving from amateur side West Warriors in the Southern Conference, via London Skolars and now to the Super League in consecutive seasons.
After making the step up to the Championship last season scoring 17 tries, London Broncos Director of Rugby & Performance Mike Eccles is now looking forward to seeing Bassett complete his story by playing in the Super League;
“His incredible story continues and I’m delighted to give him the opportunity to play in the Super League next season.
“It’s a remarkable story to progress from League 1 to the Championship and now the Super League back to back. It’s never or rarely been done before!
“I am now looking forward to seeing his continued development at the next level. He’s a big figure in the team, likeable character and huge crowd favourite.”
Speaking on his contract renewal, Bassett can’t wait to pull on the Broncos jersey again next season;
“I am looking forward to going around again with the London Broncos. I have enjoyed my first year and learnt a lot and I am hoping next year I can go to another level!”
