Super League club lose EIGHT players

The likes of Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors, Warrington Wolves, Hull FC, Hull KR and Huddersfield Giants have all completed major signings for 2024 but part of the deal is always the fact that you will have to lose some star players as well.

This is true of Huddersfield Giants as Ian Watson continues to shape his squad moving forward.

He has made a number of big signings but has also had to lose a number of key players.

It was revealed at the club’s annual awards evening that eight players will be departing the Giants after Friday’s game vs Warrington.

Firstly, Jermaine McGillvary will leave the club upon the end of the 2023 season, ending a 13-year association with his hometown club.

Theo Fages will depart the club, to sign for Catalans Dragons as he returns home to France after a difficult year with injuries and personal circumstances, Ian Watson paid a tribute to Theo in his press conferences earlier in the year and he returns home with everyone’s best wishes.

Will Pryce will end his six-year association with the Giants, after he joined Huddersfield’s pathway system from the Bradford Bulls, and was awarded his senior debut in 2021 vs Catalans.

The son of former Super League star Leon, has gone from strength to strength ever since his inclusion in the first team, and has decided upon a move to NRL side Newcastle Knights for 2024, we look forward to watching Will flourish in the Australian Elite Competition.

Nathan Mason has struggled for game time this year, while out on loan at Betfred Championship side Bradford Bulls, he suffered a broken wrist at the Summer Bash, and will now retire from the sport to move to Australia and take up another occupation, we wish Natty well in his new chapter of life.

George Roby has also spent the majority 2023 season out on loan in the Betfred Championship, firstly at Bradford Bulls and then Swinton Lions, where he will look to secure the Lions’ safety vs Halifax Panthers this weekend.

George will make a Championship move permanent in 2024, and departs the club with the best wishes of everyone.

Jack Ashworth and Owen Trout will also both leave the club, having secured contracts elsewhere in 2024 and both have provided the Giants with 100% commitment and loyalty every time they have stepped out on the pitch, and leave with the upmost respect and best wishes of everyone connected to the club.

As revealed earlier today, Chris McQueen will hang up the boots on Friday.

Long serving kitman Andrew Toulcher will also leave the Giants after ten years loyal service to the club, we would like to thank Andrew for all his hard work over the years, and often going above and beyond for the club.
