Super League club interested in signing World Cup star

Papua New Guinea star Nixon Putt will feature for Castleford Tigers this weekend.

Castleford Tigers boss Andy Last has confirmed that the club are “looking everywhere” for a mid-season signing.

This comes after the club let Adam Milner join Huddersfield Giants and Daniel Smith head to Featherstone Rovers with immediate effect.

The club themselves have confirmed a desire to bring someone in effective immediately.

Last has however confirmed the club’s interest in World Cup star and Papua New Guinea international Nixon Putt.

“Yeah we’ve looked at him, looked in great detail. He played in all the games in the World Cup, he’s a real handful and a strong ball carrier,” he said on BBC Radio Leeds.

“He’s someone that we’ve looked at and will be monitoring and assessing if he’s the right type of signing for us moving forward.

“If they’ve become World Cup players then it allows them to come in easier as an overseas player.

“We’ve had a look in that market with your PNG’s and Cook Islands, but Nixon Putt is certainly someone that we’ve had a good look at.”

Whether the Tigers pull the trigger on Putt remains to be seen.

The Tigers have a quota spot open after the sudden retirement of Jake Mamo.
