Super League club interested in NRL star

Huddersfield Giants' major transfer business saw them sign Adam Clune

Leeds Rhinos, Hull FC and Huddersfield Giants have all been linked with a major signing lately in the shape of Adam Clune.

A halfback, he is a player unsurprisingly in high demand. Initially it was Hull FC chasing the halfback as a replacement for Jake Clifford who signed for the club from Newcastle Knights where Clune currently is.

Clifford is headed to North Queensland Cowboys whilst Leeds halfback Aidan Sezer is headed to Wests Tigers.

Partner Blake Austin has already gone to Castleford Tigers. So you can see why Leeds and Hull would be interested.

That said, according to reports Huddersfield Giants are now leading the way.

Speaking on recruitment, Ian Watson revealed: “Oh, we’re having a look everywhere, mate, to be fair. We’re having a look in the NRL, and in the UK. So yeah, we’re having a look everywhere, mate, to be fair, to see what’s the right quality, but it’s got to be what’s the right fit for our team.

“So it’s not necessarily always chasing a name because there’s always names been thrown around at the moment. You see some of them that you’re linked with and some of them will be true some of them will not be true on the back end of it, it’s going to be what’s the right player to fit with our team.

“It’s not necessarily about signing the name it’s about signing the right player that will be will make our team better and improve us on and off the field.”

When asked specifically about Clune, he confirmed interest in the halfback:

“I’ve seen all the press around that and we weren’t even in that one. It was Hull and Leeds a couple of weeks ago.

“We’re interested. We’ll see. We’re speaking like probably everybody else. We’ll see and we’re hopeful we can get something done like we always are when we speak to players.

“There’ll be lots of players that come up and names will get thrown around and obviously if you’re looking in that area as well you’re going to get tagged with every kind of player but yeah it was interesting because for four weeks all we’ve seen is Hull and Leeds on that one.”
