Transfer stories are swirling around at the moment involving the likes of Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors, Warrington Wolves and Hull FC.
One club though hasn’t been that busy in the shape of Huddersfield Giants. The Giants were the big movers this time last year and drafted in some big names including Jake Connor and Kevin Naiqama though those signings haven’t had the expected impact.
This year though it has been quite quiet with limited rumours since the Adam Swift rumour began and since Adam Milner arrived from Castleford Tigers.
Speaking today, Ian Watson revealed the Giants’ position: “Yeah, I think we’ve been a little bit steadier with it this year. Like I say, we know we’ve got the nuts and bolts of a good group. We just need to make sure we add to it in the right areas and that’s finding the right quality of player to do that.
“So it’s not diving in with both feet here, it’s being a little bit kind of selective on the back end of it. But we’ve added to it in little bits.
“Obviously, you look at kind of Adam Milner, who’s obviously come in now again, but he was probably somebody looking towards next year as well, being able to give us that kind of physical presence in the middle of the field and that kind of tough start mentality.
“So he’ll be better for that for what he does this year and he was outstanding at Catalan at weekend. So not as many changes as last year, just a bit of tinkering here and there? Yeah, you never know.
“You never kind of know because you don’t know what kind of comes up on the back end of it. There’ll probably be some unforced changes, maybe, when you probably wouldn’t want to lose somebody, but circumstances mean that you do lose them. So, ideally, you don’t want to be making loads of changes. You want to kind of build on what we’ve kind of got, really.”
He confirmed that the club are in talks of potential transfers:
“Yeah, we’ve spoke to a number of people and had some real good conversations and some honest conversations about what we want to be and where we want to go to as well but like I say it’s about getting the right players.
“You want to be kind of a part of that journey as well so yeah recruitment’s always ongoing maybe it’s ongoing all through the year but we’ve had some really good conversations with some good quality players and that’s the key thing it’s getting the best players that are going to fit into our team and be able to improve on it.”
