Super League club have bold “poaching raid” turned down

The likes of Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors, Warrington Wolves, Hull FC and Hull KR have all been involved in big announcements lately in terms of transfer news as rumours of exits and new arrivals make their way across the Super League landscape.

We have seen many clubs already turn successfully to the NRL with targets still available down under the shape of Daine Laurie, Adam Doueihi and Matt Lodge despite his recent move to Manly Sea Eagles.

Meanwhile, Hull KR have already drafted in Oliver Gildart and Peta Hiku from down under from next year whilst Wigan have signed former Leeds and Huddersfield Giants star Kruise Leeming.

Meanwhile, Warrington Wolves have signed Newcastle Knights backrower Lachlan Fitzgibbon.

On signing, he said: “It’s been in my vision for the last couple of years to make the move over to Super League.

“They play a really good brand of rugby league in the UK which I feel will suit my game. At 29 I want to come over while I still have my best years in front of me.

“The history of the club and how important the club is to the town and the people of Warrington really resonated with me. I’m from a town over here in Newcastle and it’s full of passionate people who love their footy.

“Michael Monaghan is one of our Assistant Coaches at the Knights and spoke very highly about the club. I know Kurt Gidley too who’s a Newcastle legend. Kurt spoke so positively about the club and town. Hearing how much he enjoyed his time over there really made me feel comfortable about the decision and the move to England.

“I’m looking forward to getting over there and meeting the Warrington fans.”

However, with injuries mounting at Warrington especially at the backrow, Daryl Powell revealed the club would consider an early move for Fitzgibbon to ease their problems after Thomas Mikaele and Josh McGuire leaving the club.

Now the Mole of Wide World of Sports has reported that the Wolves have made a move for Fitzgibbon but it has been turned down by the Knights after what has been described as a “poaching” move from the Wolves.

He remains committed to finishing the season with the Knights and trying to guide them to the play-offs.
