Super League club given £315,000 in “urgent” financial support

According to reports, Super League club Salford Red Devils have received £315,000 in “immediate” financial support.

The Super League club have had a turbulent time since the ending of the 2023 Super League season. The Red Devils lost key men like Brodie Croft and Andy Ackers to Leeds Rhinos whilst the likes of Ken Sio and Joe Burgess also left the club.

They also faced a massive stadium problem with their tenancy agreement expiring but that problem has since been addressed.

Now the club have received £315,000 from the council according to the Manchester Evening News who are reporting that it is “immediate” financial support. The club have also reportedly said that this will secure the club’s financial stability.

The funds were sent to Salford City Reds Limited on February 28 after a request from the club according to the publication.

Salford Mayor Paul Dennett approved the decision to transfer the money last week after it was treated as “urgent.”

SALFORD, ENGLAND – APRIL 10: A general view inside the stadium prior to the Betfred Challenge Cup match

A Salford council spokesperson said: “The full acquisition of the stadium is going through many stages of pre-scrutiny and decision making engagement along with financial and legal diligence. As we move towards the start of a new future for the community stadium and a sustainable financial plan for the club, we have agreed temporary, reasonable and proportionate financial support of £315,000 in line with the Subsidy Control Act.

“This will support the club to get on a firm footing as we move to the next stage. Salford City Council continues to recognise the value of Salford Red Devils to the city and local community and the importance of the club continuing to play in Salford.”

Salford have defied the odds so far this season with the club expected to struggle this season. The Red Devils pushed Leeds Rhinos in the opening match of the season despite the fact the Rhinos had some of the star players we have seen at Salford in recent times in their squad for the game.

After that, they have since recorded back to back wins against Castleford Tigers and Hull KR.
