We have some huge games tonight as Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves meet, Leeds Rhinos and Hull KR collide and Huddersfield Giants and Wakefield Trinity meeting.
Wakefield looked left for dead earlier this year when they lost 15 games in a row including 14 league games and an early Challenge Cup exit.
They gave themselves some hope with a shock win over Leeds but that was undermined when Castleford Tigers stunned Warrington Wolves which re-opened the six point gap between them and Wakefield as they lost to Hull KR which seemingly ended their hopes of survival.
However, a battering of Salford Red Devils the week after and a triumph over Wigan in Golden Point have blown the relegation battle wide open.
There is a lot to be happy about at Wakefield with the stadium being redeveloped, a lovely new pitch and a potential takeover of the club.
On top of this they have made another key mid-season signing in the shape of Josh Griffin.
He has signed a deal until the end of 2024, following his release from Hull FC.
Griffin, who started his career with the Red, White and Blue says that “Wakefield was the obvious choice for me, I was lucky enough to make my first team debut there at 17.”
“My goals are to help the club and team out in any way that I can, I will help prepare the boys for the upcoming games.”
“I’ll be working hard until I’m available to play again and I’ll make sure to hit the ground running. There’s plenty of competition for places in the back row, which is only a good thing.”
Trinity Head Coach Mark Applegarth is delighted with the signing saying, “I’m delighted we have secured Josh’s services for the rest of this year and next. Not only is he a top quality Super League player, he’s a great person who will help drive standards up in training.”
So great positivity at the club and that has translated into great ticket sales with Wakefield selling out their allocation for the game at Huddersfield with over 800 tickets sold creating their largest away following since 2017.
Another win would certainly turn the heat up on the Tigers ahead of their Saturday game against Hull FC.
However, not all is fine at Wakefield with Wakefield having to request information from their supporters after an “incident” in a recent fixture.
If anyone knows anything, they should email info@wakefieldtrinity.com
