Super League club finally shares attendance data and it is really impressive

Attendances are often a focal point in rugby league.

With the sport always striving to grow, there are latched onto by fans and experts as a way to measure the health of the game.

There is added significance at the moment as well with this being a huge year for our sport.

The TV deal is central to the sport’s prospects moving forward with the deals with Sky Sports, Viaplay and Channel 4 all expiring this year with BBC following in 2024.

Having big crowds is key to selling the game to potential broadcasters.

Meanwhile, attendances could form part of Super League sides’ stability under IMG as they look at factors other than on field performances to determine whether a club should be given that illustrious Grade A licence and be granted access to Super League.

Thus, now more than ever there is a focus on attendances but one Super League club elected to not disclose their week by week attendance in a move that infuriated some supporters.

That club was of course Hull KR who confirmed they would be sharing quarterly attendances and have now confirmed their average attendance which is an impressive 8,782.

Not far off the 10,000 mark it is up there with the likes of St Helens, Leeds Rhinos, Warrington Wolves, Wigan Warriors and their rivals Hull FC.

As their brilliant side continue to develop and the club continues to push itself off the field, this number will only grow.
