Super League club considering their options after shock coach departure as statement finally made

Wakefield Trinity

Yesterday it was announced that Wakefield Trinity assistant coach James Ford was leaving the club to join Featherstone Rovers as Director of Rugby.

Ford joined in the off season from York RLFC.

Trinity have now released a statement explaining his sudden departure as being due to Ford agreeing to join the Rovers in 2024.

They have also confirmed that they are considering their options:

“Following the press release from Featherstone Rovers yesterday, Wakefield Trinity can confirm that James Ford has left his position as Assistant First Team Coach.

“The club very recently became aware that James had agreed to join Featherstone Rovers for the 2024 season and after considering all the circumstances, we have agreed with James that he should leave with immediate effect. Wakefield Trinity naturally wishes to thank James for the hard work and enthusiasm he has brought to his role and wish him well in the future.

“Options within our coaching team are being considered and further announcements will follow as and when any decisions are made.”

So it sounds like the club will promote from within.

It also makes sense from the club’s point of view and Ford’s to allow him to leave early.
