Wakefield Trinity have announced that six players will be leaving the club at the end of the Super League campaign. The Trin still have at least two games to play this season and are currently sat in the play-off spots, but they know Saturday night will be their final home game of the campaign whatever happens and they’ll honour those that are departing the club.
Liam Hood headlines the list, with the hooker bringing his four-season stay with Wakefield to an end. Hood enjoyed a superb start to the Super League season, helping Daryl Powell’s side find their feet quickly following their promotion from the Championship.
However, he’ll move on to pastures new having made nearly 100 appearances for the club.
Mathieu Cozza will be moving on after two seasons at Belle Vue. The forward joined the club from Featherstone ahead of their 2024 Championship season and has made 17 appearances in Super League this term.
Josh Griffin will be making the move to York Knights, as has already been announced, bringing an end to his third spell at Wakefield. He has made a total of 72 appearances for Wakefield over his career with 51 of those coming over the last two and a half years.
Renouf Atoni has been strongly linked with a move to Castleford Tigers and his departure has been confirmed after making over 60 appearances in white, red and blue.
Academy product Jack Croft will be moving on and the same can be said for Matty Russell, who will be looking for yet another club. Russell’s list of clubs is extensive to say the least, but after spells with Wigan Warriors, Hull FC, Warrington Wolves, Gold Coast Titans, Toronto Wolfpack, Leigh Leopards, Toulouse Olympique, Leeds Rhinos and now Wakefield, the 32-year-old is now looking to continue his career elsewhere.
There’s no surprises on this list, with Wakefield Trinity making the space for another big recruitment push ahead of the 2026 season with Tray Lolesio, Tyson Smoothy and Jazz Tevaga already confirmed as signings.
