Super League club closing in on immediate signing

One side’s fairytale is often another’s nightmare, yesterday Leigh Leopards achieved their dream of going to Wembley defeating Super League and World Champions St Helens at Warrington Wolves’ Halliwell Jones Stadium.

It is a fairytale for Derek Beaumont who has been dreaming about leading his club out at Wembley in a Challenge Cup Final.

However, it was a fairytale turned into a nightmare for St Helens hookers.

It was heartbreaking for James Roby who couldn’t even have an impact on the game after a head knock against Catalans Dragons.

The St Helens legend had to watch on as his chance of one last Wembley appearance dissipated as he watched on.

As for his fellow number nine, Joey Lussick’s farewell appearance looked like being a fairytale ending as he scored the opening try of the game before nailing one of the best 40/20s you will ever see.

However, his farewell appearance concluded in defeat before Paul Wellens confirmed after the game that Lussick was headed back to Australia with Parramatta Eels.

The Saints were given “an disclosed fee” for Lussick and the club confirmed they are working for an immediate replacement.

The club made the following statement:

“The Saints have been working on a suitable replacement for Lussick to join the squad immediately, and details on this player will be confirmed in due course.”

This is set to be St George Illawarra Dragons star Moses Mbye.

For a long time Mbye has been shopped around to Super League clubs for some time with the Dragons wanting to radically change their squad with Shane Flanagan putting his stamp on the squad.

Mbye is very versatile and can play at hooker, in the halves or even the backs so provides further depth for the squad.

But what about James Roby’s replacement? This is widely believed to be Daryl Clark from Warrington Wolves but has yet to be confirmed.

This comes with Brad Dwyer set to return to the Wolves to replace Clark and Hull FC interested, alongside Leeds, in hooker Danny Levi.

Former Leeds hooker Kruise Leeming has joined Wigan Warriors for 2024 alongside former Leeds teammate Sam Walters.
