Super League captain signs new deal

Catalans Dragons captain Benjamin Garcia has signed a three-year contract with the club.

Garcia, who previously played for Brisbane Broncos’ NYC side, arrived at the club in 2013. He returned in Australia in 2016, signing for Penrith, but came back to the Dragons few months later and quickly became a key player in the Dragons squad.

Garcia, 28, has made 159 Dragons’ appearances and scored 29 tries.

“I’m delighted to stay at the club for the next three seasons,” Garcia said.

“I feel good at this club and it was an easy decision for my family and I enjoy playing for the Dragons.

“We have a great squad, who enjoy working together, and we can see it on the field with our results.

“The club has great ambitions for the future and I want to bring back some trophies to Perpignan.”

Catalans boss Steve McNamara was happy to get the deal done.

“We are delighted that Benjamin has agreed to a new three year deal,” McNamara said.

“His form has been outstanding this season – he is a tremendous captain and leader who is not only driving himself to new standards but taking the other players along with him.

“He is a hugely positive influence within our club.”
