Super League bound? Off-contract NRL players who could be on the move

Here are ten NRL players whose contracts expire at the end of 2020 and could therefore be attracted by the prospect of playing in Super League next season.

Ryan Hall

The England winger has struggled with injuries since his big-money move to the Roosters. Playing just six times in the NRL since the start of 2019, Hall is unlikely to be offered a new deal and a return home in very likely. He will be 33 by the start of next season but will still attract Super League interest, with a return to Leeds to see out his career definitely a possibility.

Kane Evans

Big Fijian prop Evans was recently linked with Castleford and could definitely do a job in Super League. The 28-year-old broke onto the NRL scene with the Roosters in 2014 but has endured a mixed career to date, often struggling for consistency. Despite this, he has still accumulated over 100 first-grade appearances, including 28 for current club Parramatta.

Chris McQueen

The 32-year-old could look overseas for a swansong season after a stellar career down under. McQueen has over 150 NRL appearances to his name but has fallen out of favour recently at Wests Tigers. The back-rower has an English father and played a mid-season Test for England in 2017, making a move to Super League an option.

Nathan Peats

New South Wales’ starting hooker just three years ago, Peats would bring a wealth of experience to Super League and is still relatively young at 27. Having previously spent time with Parramatta and South Sydney, he has been a regular starter for Gold Coast since 2016 but could be allowed to leave at the end of this season.

Lachlan Lam

Son of Wigan head coach Adrian Lam, Roosters half-back Lachlan has seemingly lost in a shootout with teammate Kyle Flanagan to replace Cooper Cronk. The 21-year-old may now look to join his father in England as his contract runs down, with the Papua New Guinea international likely to have many takers given his youth and potential.

Adam Blair

Kiwi international Blair has enjoyed a wonderful career and Super League could be a tempting proposition for the former World Cup winner. Having recently stated that he has no plans to retire, the 34-year-old utility forward still has plenty to offer and remains a regular in the New Zealand Warriors team.

Blair has been an ever-present for the Warriors since joining in 2018.

Jayson Bukuya

Cronulla stalwart Bukuya is a legend at the Shire club but the soon-to-be 31-year-old could be moved on to make way for the next generation. Having played nearly 200 first-grade games, winning the NRL title in 2016, the Fijian forward will add firepower to any team and could soon be inundated with offers from Super League clubs.

Michael Oldfield

The 29-year-old winger enjoyed the most prolific seasons of his career in Super League when he played for Catalans in 2014 and 2015. Since returning to the NRL he has found himself on the fringes, scoring five tries in nine appearances for Canberra last season. Now in the final year of his contract at the Raiders, a return to Super League looks inevitable.
