Incoming Castleford Tigers speedster Tyrell Sloan has admitted he’d “love to” stay in the NRL, if presented with the opportunity.
Sloan is one of three St George Illawarra Dragons players to make the move to the club next year, joining teammates Mat Feagai and Damien Cook.
The trio have all made the move north to join former assistant coach Ryan Carr, but with uncertainty looming over his future in West Yorkshire, it remains unclear whether any of the three will pull out of a switch.
Castleford Director of Rugby Chris Chester has insisted that conversations are ongoing with the three, and as it stands, all three remain committed, but Sloan’s post-match comments after this morning’s win over Wests Tigers pose more questions than answers.
Asked about his decision to make the move, and how much he will miss the club, he told Channel Nine: “It’s something I didn’t want to do, but unfortunately that’s how the footy world works and the decision was made a few months ago.
“There’s a bit in the background going on with Carry over there. It’s a tough decision to leave home but I’m looking forward to it, particularly with having Cookie [Damien Cook] over there too.”
NRL icon Andrew Johns then questioned whether there was any chance he could remain down under, to which Sloan replied: “I’d love to.
“I’m not too sure what’s going on in the background, I haven’t heard much about what’s going on with the coaching staff over there. I’m just taking it week by week here and really enjoying my footy for the first time in a while.”

Johns remains stunned that Sloan has opted to make the switch to the northern hemisphere, despite him having his best playing days ahead of him.
“I can’t believe he’s going to the Super League. He’s too good a player to be leaving the NRL at this age.
“Eight games, eight tries. He has absolutely top-end speed. He’s been bouncing around at fullback and wing, but I think left wing’s his spot. There’s a real player in Tyrell Sloan, I think he’s found his spot.”
