Super League boss opens up on how COVID has severely affected his side

After a fortnight without a fixture, St Helens head coach Kristian Woolf cannot wait to get back on the field as his side take on Hull FC on Monday.

Those cancelled fixtures have been down to COVID-19 and the Saints boss believes his side are “through the worst”.

“We think we are clear, but looking at what has happened at other clubs, it’s tended to hang around at other clubs,” Woolf said.

“We’ve done a lot of rounds of testing since the Challenge Cup – our last was Tuesday and we came up all clear there.

“That was PCR testing as well which is a lot more reliable, and then we had another round of testing this morning which came up clear too.

“We think we are through the worst.”

Woolf does, however, recognise how disruptive COVID has been.

“We have got a couple of guys isolating and we’ve got nine or ten with the playing group and staff that have tested positive.”

“Some of those guys won’t be back until after the Catalans game. so it’s certainly disruptive once it gets into the camp, but hopefully we are through.

“I’m very confident we will be able to name a side that isn’t fair off being full strength.”
