Super League Attendances: Two amazing crowds but two unable to reach 10K

Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors, Hull FC and Warrington Wolves had huge games over the weekend in front of big crowds.

The Rhinos met Hull FC away in a do or die clash for both clubs to keep their play off hopes alive. Wigan Warriors meanwhile met fell play off hopefuls Salford Red Devils whilst in the other sky game Warrington Wolves met a Castleford Tigers team striving to survive.

The action concluded on Sunday with St Helens meeting Wakefield Trinity at Belle Vue.

But turning to the start of the action, Hull KR engineered a shock result at Craven Park to celebrate their own retro round.

They welcomed a wounded Catalans Dragons side to Craven Park who had been battered by Wigan last week. They remarkably lost two games in a row as Jack Walker stood out.

That gave Wigan Warriors the opportunity to take top spot with a win over Salford Red Devils and they took it with Jai Field and Bevan French starring.

The big story was between Leigh Leopards and Huddersfield Giants where after 48 minutes Leigh led 16-12 but the game was stopped by a floodlight failure and would be abandoned and resumed from the 49th minute on Sunday.

Before that, a Sam Lisone hat trick gave Leeds Rhinos a crucial win over Hull FC all but ending their hopes of play off rugby whilst maintaining Leeds’.

Warrington Wolves meanwhile ran in 11 tries against Castleford Tigers as George Williams, Matt Dufty and Danny Walker ran riot to plunge Cas into relegation trouble.

Then on Sunday, Leigh got the job done against Huddersfield whilst St Helens defeated Wakefield Trinity.

But did the attendances reflect the action? There were two huge crowds at Wigan and Hull FC with five figure attendances.

Hull KR meanwhile sold 8,000 tickets days before the meeting with Catalans Dragons but do not disclose attendances.

Leigh and Huddersfield’s game was of course abandoned but the second time they met recorded an attendance of over 6,000.

There was a strong crowd at Wakefield but their three stands continue to cap attendances.
