Round 18 of the Betfred Super League has come to a close and it was a pivotal round of fixtures as big clubs like Wigan Warriors, Warrington Wolves and Leeds Rhinos came unstuck.
The action started on Friday night with a huge clash between Warrington Wolves and St Helens at the Halliwell Jones.
It was a great game that seemed in the hands of the Wolves as they led 20-12 late in the game after amazing tries from Matty Ashton and Matt Dufty.
However, as the St Helens spine clicked into gear they found two key moments to turn the game on its head and claim the win.
Elsewhere on Friday night there was a huge shock result as Wakefield won in Golden Point against Wigan Warriors to heap the pressure on Castleford Tigers in the relegation battle as they came up short against Leigh Leopards.
Now just two points separate them and Wakefield at the bottom of the league. On Saturday we saw an upset from Huddersfield Giants as they defeated league leaders Catalans Dragons to claim a vital win in easing the pressure on Ian Watson.
Sunday was the day of big play-off games and that was the case as Hull FC edged a nervy Hull derby against Hull KR before Leeds Rhinos won a classic encounter against Salford Red Devils.
A great weekend of rugby, did the games receive the attendances they deserved? Well we know the Hull derby was a sellout but Hull KR haven’t been disclosing their attendance figures this season.
That attendance though was likely five figures as was Warrington v St Helens.
Catalans’ attendance wasn’t far off the five figure mark against Huddersfield whilst Castleford and Salford were both well short of 10,000.
That was also likely the case at Wakefield as they continue to redevelop their stadium.
