Super League attendances as Wigan Warriors and St Helens pull in big numbers

Super League

Round four of Super League is in the books and it’s fair to say it was relatively well attended with decent numbers across the board.

Crowds have remained strong over the opening few weeks of the new Super League season with clubs doing all they can to bring supporters into the ground and the hope is that those numbers can build as the season progresses.

Wigan Warriors attracted the biggest attendance of the weekend as 17,625 piled into the Brick Community Stadium to watch their clash against Huddersfield Giants on Sunday. Almost all of those were home fans too, with Huddersfield taking a very small pocket of a away fans across the Pennines.

St Helens welcomed 11,438 to the Totally Wicked Stadium for their clash against Hull KR on Friday night. They could only watch on though as Rovers produced a dominant performance to go one point clear at the top of Super League with a 20-10 win in Merseyside.

Warrington Wolves disappointed once more on their return from Las Vegas, they slumped to a 30-16 loss at home to newly promoted Wakefield Trinity at the Halliwell Jones Stadium. A crowd of 10,024 watched that game and those of a primrose and blue persuasion will have gone home asking plenty of questions about this Warrington side.

Hull FC will have hoped for a bigger crowd than the 9,765 they got against Leigh Leopards on Thursday night, while Catalans Dragons attracted 8,125 to the Stade Gilbert Brutus for their clash with Leeds Rhinos on Saturday.

Castleford Tigers got the smallest Super League crowd of the weekend with 6,295 watching their game with Salford Red Devils, but given there was a suggestion that the game wouldn’t go ahead in the days leading up to kick-off, they’ll be pleased with that total.
