Super League attendances as Wigan Warriors and Leeds Rhinos draw over 35,000 combined

Wigan Warriors and Leeds Rhinos drew over 35,000 fans combined for their final home games of the Super League regular season in a round full of huge attendances.

Four of the seven games in Super League round 27 landed five-figure crowds but it was Wigan and Leeds, who went into the night still vying to win the League Leaders Shield, who drew the biggest attendances.

It was Wigan who would win the League Leaders Shield and that was witnessed by almost 20,000 as a crowd of 19,049 turned out, something that’s made all the more impressive by the fact that Catalans were the away side.

Of course, thousands of fans will have turned out for what was captain Liam Farrell’s final ever regular-season home game, with the skipper even admitting that he’s unsure if it marked his final-ever game for the club.

Over at Headingley, 16,402 fans turned out and the majority went home disappointed as Leeds lost 18-12 to Hull FC, who saw Tom Briscoe sign off with a win.

Crowds of over 10,000 were drawn at both Warrington and St Helens, with both teams winning in front of their home fans. In doing so, Wire confirmed a third-place finish and they will now host the team that St Helens defeated, Hull KR, in the play-off eliminators.

The other game with play-off implications saw Wakefield head to Leigh and land a win, meaning they will now host Leigh next week. Almost 9,000 watched that game.

Thursday and Saturday saw the only games without play-off implications and both drew just over 5,000, as York ended their maiden Super League season with a win and the Giants played their final game in Huddersfield for some time, wrapping up with a win.
