It was a milestone weekend for Super League as the aggregate attendance of Super League games surpassed 1,000,000 in 2025.
Super League crowds have been up this year with the current average being at more than 10,000 per match and it’s only the second time in the summer era that the million milestone has been reached within the first 100 fixtures.
That milestone was hit on Saturday when Hull FC took on St Helens at the MKM Stadium and it’s fair to say it came in a round of shocks as the top two in the division were stopped in their tracks.
Hull KR fell to just their second defeat of the season as they were beaten on home soil by a resolute and determined Leeds Rhinos outfit, while Wigan Warriors’ poor form continued as they lost at Leigh Leopards.
Both games were played in front of sell out crowds with Leigh welcoming a remarkable 10,375 fans to Leigh Sports Village and that’s the club’s biggest ever Super League attendance.
Rovers on the other hand, saw 11,300 pile through the turnstiles at Craven Park, ensuring the east Hull stadium was full to the brim on Sunday afternoon.
Hull FC claimed the biggest attendance of the weekend, though, with 11,355 watching their defeat to St Helens at the MKM Stadium. The Black and Whites haven’t won on home soil for a year now but they have the opportunity to break that duck on Thursday when Wakefield Trinity make the trip.
Wakefield continue to welcome strong crowds to Belle Vue and they saw 8,625 turn up to watch their game with Catalans Dragons on Saturday night. What makes that figure even more impressive is the lack of away fans.
Castleford Tigers got the round underway on Thursday night when they played host to Huddersfield Giants, who travelled with a modest following to the other side of West Yorkshire. An attendance of 6,669 was recorded there, while Salford Red Devils failed to disclose their attendance on Friday night against Warrington Wolves.
