Another weekend of Super League is over and with three games reaching a five-figure attendance, it seems there’s definitely still an appetite for live rugby league action.
The highest attendance of the round goes to Leeds Rhinos with 15,166 at AMT Headingley Stadium. The home fans definitely had the better afternoon with the Rhinos claiming a 12-10 victory over Wigan Warriors. Fans turned out in huge numbers to support Ryan Hall’s 500th game. Their foundation was also working alongside the local South Asian community to celebrate Ramadan for this fixture, with many attending their first-ever game of rugby league.
St Helens v Warrington Wolves was second highest as 14,068 fans turned out at the Totally Wicked Stadium for another close encounter. The home fans were left disappointed as Warrington hung on for a 14-12 win. The match was a double-header with the two academy sides featuring beforehand and the Wolves managed to do the double over Saints for a great night out.
Hull KR and Leigh Leopards finished off round five on Sunday afternoon in front of an 11,231 crowd. Celebrating captain Elliot Minchella’s 100th Super League appearance, the Robins dominated for a 30-0 victory over the Leopards. As always, Hull KR put on a matchday experience with live music and plenty of food stalls on Craven Street. Fans also got their chance to meet new recruit Arthur Mourgue before he makes his debut in the coming weeks.
Wakefield Trinity are proving that they’re more than worthy of a Super League spot in 2025 with an 8,027 sell-out crowd against Hull FC on Friday night. Hull once again offered free coach travel to their fans and 2,200 travelling supporters turned up to see their side win 16-12. The away fans got to see Liam Watts make his second debut for the club too. It was another double-header with their academy sides, with Trinity taking the spoils in that one.
Castleford Tigers will be pleased with their 6,005 attendance against Catalans Dragons but will be less pleased with the 26-4 loss. Considering the very wet conditions, the club held their Family Fun Day to entice fans through the gates. They will be hoping to improve on that attendance figure when Hull FC visit on Thursday night.
To round out the attendance figures, Salford Red Devils hosted Huddersfield Giants in front of 3,764. At just over a quarter of the capacity, Salford have a lot of work to do both on and off their field to increase those numbers. However, fans will be encouraged after a 23-10 victory as well as a player of the match performance by Jayden Nikorima as their side finally clicked to take home the win.
