The Round 16 attendances are in, and for Leeds Rhinos is was an incredible weekend, as they recorded their highest crowd for over six years.
The Rhinos took on Hull KR in their annual MND awareness game, meaning that the fixture was more than just a clash between two of the competition’s top sides.
They took victory in impressive style, securing a 34-8 win over Willie Peters’ side, who have now lost both games to the Headingley outfit this season.
A crowd of 18,456 attended the game, in what is Leeds’ biggest attendance since the Round One game of 2020, where Leeds took on Hull FC, and Castleford played Toronto Wolfpack in a double header.
That was by far the most well-supported game of the weekend, though Hull FC and Wigan Warriors racked up a crowd of 12,272 – the second highest of the weekend.
That game ended in controversial fashion, with the clock in the ground stopping working with just minutes to go, meaning FC were hampered in their quest for a final try that could have earned them the win.
Elsewhere, Warrington Wolves saw an attendance of 8,354 in their win over Catalans Dragons on Thursday night. York Knights claimed their fourth win of the year against Castleford Tigers in front of 8,079 supporters.
In France, 3,742 fans witnessed Toulouse lose to Leigh Leopards. The travelling fans went home happy, as did Josh Charnley, who bagged four tries.
St Helens travelled to Odsal for the first time since 2014, and came out as winners. A total of 7,019 supporters travelled to West Yorkshire for that one.
Lastly, Sunday saw the game of the weekend, if not the season, as Josh Rourke’s last-minute try snatched a 29-23 win for Trinity in front of 9,258 fans. The win means Wakefield return to fourth in the Super League table, leapfrogging St Helens and Hull KR.
