Super League attendance sees Hull FC and Wigan Warriors boost crowd numbers

Round 24 of Super League is in the books and the attendance figures have been confirmed for five of the six games.

After the end of the round, the playoff picture is still very muddled and it has become an even closer picture. Just two points separate fourth from eighth now, whilst Warrington’s defeat means that Wigan Warriors and Hull KR look set to fight it out for the League Leaders Shield on Friday night.

Warrington lost 16-12 on the road to Leigh on Friday night in a game that saw Paul Vaughan controversially sent off. The 12-man Wolves stuck in the game but couldn’t overcome Leigh who have moved into the top six for the first time all season.

That night, Hull KR continued their dominance of late as they retained top spot in Super League in front of a packed-out Craven Park, albeit the official attendance figures are not released.

Onto Saturday and the Robins’ neighbours, Hull FC, lost once again as Castleford beat them 39-20 before Wigan kept the pressure on KR with a 26-18 win in France against Catalans.

Sunday’s action saw St Helens overcome difficulties to beat Huddersfield 18-10, not before Leeds Rhinos scraped past London Broncos in golden point as they won 21-20. It marked the second occasion this season that Leeds had been taken to golden point by the Broncos.

With just three rounds of Super League to go, every game matters and the support of the fans can be the difference in such close games meaning the attendance figures are as important as ever.

The best attendance in Round 24 of Super League came from Catalans who boasted a crowd of 11,083 thanks to a strong travelling Wigan Warriors support.

That was one of just two games to surpass 10,000 fans with Hull FC also hitting the benchmark figure. Hull KR could well have surpassed it but the Robins do not reveal their Super League attendance figures weekly, meaning their crowd number is unknown.

Over 9,000 watched Leigh beat Warrington to keep their playoff hopes alive but Sunday’s games saw more disappointing figures. Huddersfield drew less than 4,000 for their clash with St Helens, whereas London hit 4,403 for their game with Leeds.
