Round One of Super League 2025 is behind us and there’s plenty to talk about including the brilliant attendance figures.
Super League has largely impressed in its first week back with four of the six games being incredibly competitive, including three that were separated by a total of just four points.
Of course, St Helens blowing out Salford Red Devils live on the BBC on account of Salford’s questionable team selection is a major negative but by and large, Round One was a major success.
A good metric to measure success by is match attendance, something that it was feared would dip from 2024 onward given the new Super League TV deal.
With every game televised, it was thought that fans would be less inclined to attend games but that hasn’t proven true and the Super League Round One attendance figures certainly suggest otherwise.

The season started on Thursday night, a night that saw plenty of Super League records tumble including the largest attendance in Round One history.
A crowd of 21,748 watched Wigan and Leigh draw 0-0 in 80 minutes before the Leopards won it 1-0 with a drop goal in golden point in an incredibly dramatic way to start the season.
We were back in golden point again on Friday night as Castleford almost caught Hull KR out in front of a sold-out Craven Park as they lost 19-18 after golden point.
The other side of the city of Hull had travelled to France where they put in a statement victory by beating Catalans Dragons 22-4, creating concern for Steve McNamara’s side.
Saturday started off well with Wakefield Trinity and Leeds Rhinos playing out a close affair with the promote side winning 14-12, however, Saturday’s evening game wasn’t anywhere near as close.
St Helens beat what was effectively a Salford reserve team by a score of 82-0 as they ran in 15 tries before Sunday’s ‘Battle of the Burgess brothers’ was won by Sam with Warrington defeating Huddersfield 20-12.
The Hull KR attendance was unconfirmed with the Robins only revealing their crowd figures at their quarterly meetings, however, Sky Sports reported that around 11,000 were in attendance.
Round One Super League attendances
Wigan Warriors 0-1 Leigh Leopards – 21,748
Catalans Dragons 4-24 Hull FC – 9,273
Hull KR 19-18 Castleford Tigers – 11,000* unofficial Sky Sports number
Leeds Rhinos 12-14 Wakefield Trinity – 15,364
St Helens 82-0 Salford Red Devils – 12,218
Huddersfield Giants 12-20 Warrington Wolves – 5,871
Total attendance – 75,574 (assuming Hull KR posted 11,000)

I’d be more concerned than anything, Wigan vs Leigh, very close to one another, both teams playing exceptionally well, with exciting squads, adventurous styles of play, some true flair players, and they can’t sell out the stadium? There is a hardcoremofvfansxattendingbmatches, but growth is not happening, most clubs play in modern stadiums, with good facilities, but attendance is not soaring.
How do the figures stack up next to Premiership Rugby Union? They’ve had clubs fold in the top flight, how do their figures compare? What about viewing figures? How do they compare? Another one, what are the current official figures on the time the ball is in play, I find different answers, suggesting League 63/80 minutes, Union 35/80 minutes.
