Super League attendance as Wigan Warriors break 20-year record and Hull KR sell out again

Super League attendance

The Super League semi-finals are behind us and they have both recorded brilliant attendance figures with one breaking a 20-year record.

We now know that champions Wigan Warriors will face Hull KR on Saturday at Old Trafford in the Super League Grand Final, a game that could be trending for a massive attendance if early ticket sales are anything to go by.

Hull KR booked their slot at their maiden Grand Final on Friday night when they defeated Warrington Wolves 10-8 in an intense battle at a packed-out Craven Park.

Much has been made of the atmosphere at Craven Park this season and whilst Willie Peters downplayed the importance of home advantage in the build-up to the game, the Robins’ faithful certainly helped carry their team over the line as they clung on in the second half.

It was a game that was marred by controversy with Joe Burgess’ try leading to more calls to change the video referee process, however, the Robins were arguably worthy winners.

Onto Saturday night when Wigan booked their spot in a second-straight Grand Final and they were undoubtedly worthy winners as they dominated Leigh Leopards from start to finish in a 38-0 rout.

It was a machine-like performance with added flair from French and Field who each scored a try and that victory set up a brilliant Super League Grand Final.

The attendance figures for the Wigan and Leigh game has been revealed and whilst Hull KR have not confirmed an official attendance, the game was reportedly a sell-out.

Hull Live reported mid-week that less than 50 tickets were available, indicating that the game was a total sell-out on Friday night.

With Craven Park capable of carrying a capacity attendance of 12,225 and a temporary stand erected to hold a further 1,000 fans, it would seem that over 13,000 watched the Robins in the Super League semi-finals.

As for Saturday’s game, that boasted a confirmed attendance of 20,511 which is the third-highest Super League play-off attendance and the highest since 2004, marking a 20-year high.

All eyes now move to Old Trafford and what the attendance will be like for the Super League Grand Final.
