Super League and ex-Leigh Centurions target Richard Kennar set to sign for new club

He had been offered to Super League clubs last year – with Leigh Centurions once in the driving seat – but now Richard Kennar has found a new club.

He will be staying in the NRL with the South Sydney Rabbitohs after doing enough to impress before the 2022 season starts.

“Richie Kennar is expected to sign a top 30 deal with South Sydney after impressing in the pre-season,” the Daily Telegraph has reported.

“Kennar spent a season at Souths in 2018 – between stints at Melbourne and Brisbane. The outside back spent last season at the Broncos but has been training with Souths and looks set to be rewarded with a deal.”

Kennar has big NRL pedigree having come through the ranks at Melbourne in 2015 where he registered nine appearances in two seasons.

The winger/centre then made the move to Souths ahead of the 2018 season and he made a further eight appearances, scoring seven tries in the process.

A move to Brisbane then came about, but Kennar was restricted to just 14 appearances in three seasons which prompted the 27-year-old to look elsewhere for game time – hence the initial link with Super League.

However, he has been reunited with Souths where his strike rate was almost a try a game.
