Super League and Championship side partake in joint session in preparation of Boxing Day fixtures

Halifax Panthers have shared images of a joint session that they took part in alongside Leeds Rhinos as part of both team’s pre-season prep, with matches set to start in less than 72 hours.

Panthers posted the images to their Twitter profile and it showed skipper Kruise Leeming as well as Zane Tetevano and youngster Sam Walters, all of whom head coach Rohan Smith has named in his squad for the Boxing Day fixture against Wakefield Trinity.

Halifax posted this message with the images: “Last night the first team took part in an opposed session with Leeds Rhinos at their Kirkstall training ground. A highly beneficial for both teams before the Christmas break. Thanks for having us.”

Whilst Halifax will head into a break with their first pre-season game set to take place on 15th January against Wakefield, Rhinos will face off with their Super League opposition in the upcoming days suggesting this was a captains run style session for the Rhinos.

Rohan Smith has named a very experimental squad for Boxing Day with a team that will feature four new signings and plenty of youth.

Derrell Olpherts, James McDonnell, Justin Sangare and Leon Ruan will all don the Rhinos kit for the first time in front of fans in what’s expected to be a very busy Headingley.

Ash Handley is set to try out a role at full-back whilst Morgan Gannon will operate in the halves in what is clearly an experiment by Smith, testing his squad’s versatility and depth positions.
